Electroactivated water – or EAW – is an environmentally compatible, pH neutral solution produced by electrolysis of ordinary salt (NaCl). EAW acts as a bacteriostatic agent while at the same time being non-toxic and approved as additive for drinking water. Pilot investigations have shown EAW to have a potential in the breeding of pork and poultry. By adding EAW to the drinking water, significantly larger growth and more effective food exploitation have been observed. At the same time, it is expected that EAW will reduce the risk of antibacterial resistance, a rapidly growing threat to society.

EAW is also used for production of vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, salad etc. which generally show extended shelf-life following irrigation with dilute EAW.
