Scientific progress is ideally driven by new and unexpected discoveries which force us to question our current understanding of nature and prompt us to see previous findings in new light. But in reality, modern science is stuck in a situation of prejudice and reluctance to accept surprising discoveries which could threaten our current views. Such unexpected findings are often rejected on purely theoretical grounds if they do not fit into the official paradigm. As a consequence, breakthrough science is facing major barriers in terms of publication in mainstream scientific journals, which is fact should have such publications as their primary mission.

Moreover, current science is often subject to funding restrictions allowing only for mainstream projects within specific strategic areas such as nanotechnology or molecular biology to be supported. Unconventional science which has the potential to threaten our current paradigm, is facing major financial barriers and is often left to rely on private funding.
